Work Experience Calculation Example
Job 1: 15 June 2020 – 20 August 2022
Job 2: 5 September 2022 – 10 January 2025
These periods do not overlap, so the calculator combines their active calendar time while leaving out the gap between jobs. The result is 4 years, 6 months and 10 days, representing 1,654 unique days of employment.
How to Calculate Experience Across Multiple Jobs
Add every role as a separate employment period. Workiley sorts and combines the dates before calculating the total, excludes gaps, and counts overlapping calendar time only once. For a current role, the period runs through today.
Total experience covers all qualifying roles. If an application asks for relevant experience, calculate only the jobs connected to that vacancy, skill or responsibility.
How Dates and Calendar Months Are Counted
This tool measures elapsed time: 1 January to 2 January is one day, and equal start and end dates give zero days. It does not add an extra day for the end date. For a current job, it uses today's local date when you calculate.
The result uses calendar years and months rather than treating every month as 30 days. Check the employer's counting convention when the result affects eligibility.

Does a notice period count as work experience?
A served notice period normally remains part of employment through the official last working day. Use the date recorded by your employer and follow any specific application or verification rules.
Is the last working day included?
This calculator measures elapsed time and does not add an extra inclusive day. Some employers, government forms and certification processes use a different convention, so follow the rule stated on the relevant form.
Are my employment dates saved?
No. The calculation runs locally in your browser. Workiley does not receive or store the dates you enter.
